Study of Gender Bias and role of it in Textbooks of Iranian Guidance School
Textbooks serve as one of the main instruments for shaping knowledge, attitudes and principles of learners. Learning from textbooks is an important mechanism through which culture is transmitted from one generation to the next (Taylor, 2003).
For most teachers, textbooks provide the foundation for the content of lessons, the balance of the skills taught, as well as the kinds of language practice the students engage
in during class activities.
According to Chafiaa (2010) said that amongst participants of speech of all communities, gender based linguistic variation is a fundamental example of the sort of social function that is fulfilled by language gender linguistics ,and it concerned with various aspects of the representation and presentation of gender through language.
I tried to evaluate aspects of gender bias in textbooks for secondary school. They are designed for Iranian students that learn English language.
This book definition term gender Bias and emphasizing the role of course book designers, educators, teachers and community members in considering gender bias in textbooks.
